Unfolding Germline Development in the Human Parasite Schistosoma using Nano Scale Tools
We will uncover novel cellular pathways by which environmental influences are transmitted across generations. We will study a human parasitic flatworm, called schistosome, since its germline development involves converting a somatic stem cell into a germ cell, which breaches a fundamental barrier in development. This biology was not previously tractable, but our study is enabled by a novel nanodelivery system that we propose to develop.
Arnold O. Beckman exemplifies the meaning of the word humanitarian. Combined with his unwavering enthusiasm for life, his keen sense of humor and his strong moral and ethical principles, he is a national icon.
