Highly Multiplexed Super-Resolution Imaging of Chromatin Structure
Like a book printed on origami in which the folding changes the story, the genomes of higher animals fold inside the nucleus of distinct
cell types to connect or conceal different parts of this genetic blueprint for cell behavior. My lab is developing new microscopy approaches to observe
this folding with detail never before achieved, and combining these observations with genetic editing to understand the language of this genomic code.
An improved understanding of the genomic code will open the way to more effective, personalized, and preventative medicine for many diseases which
afflict our society, from cancer to autism.
Arnold O. Beckman exemplifies the meaning of the word humanitarian. Combined with his unwavering enthusiasm for life, his keen sense of humor and his strong moral and ethical principles, he is a national icon.
