Intelligent Microscopes to Observe and Interact with Dynamic Biological Specimens
We believe that artificial intelligence can enable feedback between advanced image analysis and cutting-edge microscopy to fundamentally change how microscopes are used for research. I propose to develop intelligent microscopes that are able to 1) search for and identify rare biological events, 2) adapt to the changing dynamics of live samples, and 3) interact with biological specimens through 4D photomanipulation. We will use these technologies answer previously intractable questions about how chromosomes segregate in living cells during mitosis.
