Broadband biosensing from the visible to infrared with 2D plasmonic metamaterials
This research project - the development of ultrasensitive broadband biosensors using 2D plasmonic metamaterials - builds on my interdisciplinary research in electrochemistry, plasmonics, method development in microscopy, and 2D materials. The proposed research will provide the first example of plasmonic light focusing structures with broad wavelength tunability. While there are now a small number of examples in which this tunability has been utilized across small ranges of wavelengths, our efforts will focus on achieving tunability from the infrared to visible. This will truly open pan-chromatic spectroscopy for both FT-IR techniques and Raman spectroscopy on single molecules.
