Super-resolution Infrared Microscopy in the Aqueous Phase
Infrared microscopy has two major limitations: low spatial resolution due to the diffraction limit; and incompatibility with the aqueous phase measurement due to the strong infrared attenuation from the water. In this proposal, we seek to overcome these two barriers with one integrated solution by developing an action-based infrared scanning probe microscopy in water. The new technique will empower researchers to study previously inaccessible nanoscale objects and chemical/biological processes in the aqueous phase with an unprecedented spatial resolution.
