Inside the Archive: Hello World, It’s “Me” (Mabel)

Straight from the pages of Mabel (Meinzer) Beckman’s personal photo scrapbook is this 1919 image titled simply, “Me.” This view re-creates how the image originally appeared in Mabel’s now 100-year-old-plus album, cut out and glued to the page along with a handwritten inscription. As we celebrate Mabel’s birthdate in December, the image offers a rare glimpse of her early adulthood, during time spent with friends in Bayside, Long Island, NY.
