Using Redox Chemistry to Create Multiplex Biosensors
Methylene blue has been shown to be an effective and robust redox reporter in aptamer-based biosensors. In the pursuit of creating multiplex biosensors, compounds with different redox potentials than methylene blue must be utilized that are as robust as methylene blue. One avenue for finding potential redox reporters is through examining compounds with the same phenothiazine core as methylene blue. This research catalogues the synthesis of known and new phenothiazine compounds, the measurement of their redox potentials, and the eventual synthesis of functionalized derivatives of selected compounds that will be tested in multiplex aptamer-based biosensors alongside methylene blue.
