Title:
Development of the Enantioselective Iodolactonization Reaction

Institution:
Vanderbilt University

Department:
Chemistry

Description:
The purpose of this research proposal is to develop new chemical reactions that produce more complex intermediates, namely intermediates that can be used as lynchpins for the synthesis of a complex small molecule with biological activity. More specifically, the reaction is an enantioselective iodolactonization reaction for the preparation of bridged lactones, and their application to the synthesis of a biologically active molecule of which we wish to further probe. The application of an enantioselective reaction to make epsilon lactones comes into play in the synthesis of sesbanine, a compound with potent antileukemic activity
