Research Summary

We work at the interface of organic, analytical, and materials chemistry. We design and synthesize reagents that are capable of autonomously detecting trace chemical signals and then providing a highly amplified response. These reagents are useful for a variety of applications including low-cost point-of-care diagnostics, and will provide the foundation for a wide range of new types of stimuli-responsive materials. We are motivated by important problems facing the world, including (i) diagnosing disease in resource-limited environments, and (ii) providing solutions to the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment.
