"STEAM Weekly" Program Introduces OC Students to Robotics and Coding

Providing Students with Hands-on Experience in Technology and Innovation

With an OC Community Grant through the Foundation, The Youth Centers of Orange (YCO) will fund its 2025 STEAM Wednesday Program at Palmyra GATE Magnet School in Orange, California. This expanded program will serve 100 students weekly over the 36-week school year. A portion of the grant will go toward STEM kits from Child Creativity Lab. The remaining portion will support the introduction of robotics and coding classes, providing students with hands-on experience in technology and innovation.

YCO is a 501c3 nonprofit which prepares youth in the city of Orange for academic and life success by providing high-quality youth development programs, community engagement opportunities, and mentoring. It is a year-round program with four centers located in the city of Orange that are open for after-school programming, summer camps, and holiday breaks.

About the Program

This program will deliver weekly STEAM activities using STEM kits tailored to foster curiosity and exploration. It will expand access to robotics and coding education to prepare 100 youth for future opportunities in technology, engaging those students in high-quality STEAM education to increase representation in science and technology fields. Students will explore science topics relevant to Orange County, such as sustainability, robotics, and local environmental science.
